At the NPIAP 2024 Annual Conference, there will be two distinct tracks focused on key components of Pressure Injury:

Track 1: Best Practices and New Research Related to Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Injuries

This track will highlight new research and best practices in pressure injury prevention presented by board members and internationally known PI prevention experts. The international Pressure Injury Prevention and Treatment Guideline Governance Group will be in attendance and will discuss the process for the next version of the guideline to be tentatively available in late 2024. Several of the sessions will also highlight methods to reduce barriers for implementation of pressure injury prevention measures across different patient populations. The participant will also hear from several physicians describe advances in treatment of pressure injuries.

Track 2: The State of the Science Around Medical Device Related Pressure Injuries (MDRPI)

This track will bring in an International expert, Dr. Amit Gefen who will highlight the biomechanical research on medical devices that contribute to the development of PI. Dr. Gefen, along with the NPIAP President, Joyce Black, PhD RN, will provide the history behind the MDRPI. New research from Susan Solmos, PhD CWCN, will provide insight on PPE related injuries and on mechanical stiffness of devices that correlates to the severity of MDRPI in critically ill devices. This track will also highlight respiratory device related PI and mucosal membrane PI and conclude with a discussion on the reporting process of MDRPI.
